U.S. Clinical Experience

Experience a real-life clinical environment at a U.S. hospital in Miami, Florida. Here are a few things you can expect to do:

  • Complete routine procedures as directed by the physician
  • Execute basic first aid and help with patient examinations or treatments
  • Report patients’ signs and symptoms
  • Carry out basic laboratory procedures
  • Learn to use office medical equipment
  • Take patients' vitals and prepare them for the physician’s care
  • Case review with attending physician

United States Clinical Experience

Make your residency application stand out with 6 or 12 months of clinical experience. You can choose between a variety of rotation opportunities in an array of specialties. At the end of each rotation, you will receive a performance evaluation by the hospital Attending. Upon successful completion of clinical experiences, you will have the opportunity to receive Letters of Recommendation from participating physicians. It’s a perfect way to get an inside look at the U.S. medical system and is invaluable for your residency interviews and ERAS application.

Will I be eligible for I20 with the Step 2 with Clinical program?

Yes, Kaplan is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

What is the difference between the two program lengths of 6 and 12 months?

Both programs include live Step 2 CK prep from Kaplan. The difference between the two programs is the total number of weeks of rotations you will go on. Those who enroll in the 12-month program will complete 28-weeks of rotations. Those who enroll in the 6-month program will complete 8-weeks of rotations.

What rotation specialties are available and what is the length of each clinical rotation?

Family Medicine: 4 weeks

What do I get after finishing the rotations in USMLE Step 2 with Clinical Experience? Do I receive any Certifications?

Once you complete a rotation you will get a performance evaluation from the hospital Attending. Upon successful completion of clinical experiences, students will have the chance to receive Letters of Recommendation from participating physicians. These will strengthen your application when you apply for Residency.

Students will also get Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through this program.

How does Step 2 with Clinical Experience differ from an Observership?

An Observership is an informal shadowing experience that enables participants to watch procedures and surgeries. Our clinical experience program allows students the ability to interact with patients and assist in various aspects of medical practice under the direct supervision of a physician.

How long will it take to complete my Step 2 CK course?

Students will complete their Step 2 CK prep prior to the practical clinical rotation component. Step 2 CK prep at Kaplan Miami will be completed in approximately 4 months.

Can I enroll in clinical rotations without Step 2 CK prep?

No, students can’t enroll in clinical rotations separately. They must enroll in either the 6 or 12-month USMLE Step 2 with Clinical program to get access to clinical rotations.
